We buy the tickets then take a free ferry to Andufang. This free ferry is a wooden boat which can take 20 to 30 per way ,the boatman only use the bamboo pole to push the boat ,so there is no noise and pollution, you only can hear the voice of the paddles strokes, pleasant talk and laughter.
When we arrived at Andufang ,the first scenic spot is Foliage Dyeing Workshop. Foliage Dyeing Workshop is a hand-crafted and eco-friendly printing and dyeing workshop.
Foliage Dyeing Workshop is able to create about 200 patterns, many of which are derived from Chinese folklore. The most popular patterns are those featuring flowers and animals as they are often symbolic in Chinese culture. For example, the peony is a symbol of wealth and prosperity, while pine trees represent longevity. The production process, which is almost completely manual, is a lot more complicated than that. The first step of the process involves carving out the motifs on a thick paper template by hand. These patterns are then transferred onto white cotton cloth by brushing a dye-resistant paste made with lime and grounded soy bean over the template. It takes about three days for this paste to dry, following which the cloth undergoes the dyeing process. ndigo dye is extracted from the woad plant, also sometimes known as Asp of Jerusalem, by grinding and fermenting its leaves. The dye is then poured into a large caldron where the cloth is immersed a number of times until it turns indigo. Following this, workers extend the cloth and scratch off the dye-resistant paste, leaving behind the white motifs underneath. The last step of the process is the washing of the cloth to remove any remnant particles and hanging it out to dry on poles. In 2006, this traditional craft was listed as a national intangible heritage.
Xu Chang sauce and pickle shop, founded in 1859, was the earliest ever recorded in Wuzhen, now it has over 150 years history so far.
All pickle products adopt a traditional craft brewing, using the pattern of “Front Shops and Back Factories”, self-marketing. The main products are bean paste, soy sauce, pickled vegetables etc.
Yi Chang smelting workshop used to be a civil workshop in Wuzhen, using the pattern of “Front Shops and Back Factories”, the first one pot shop made here famous.
The building structure of Yi Chang smelting workshop has a unique design, all pillars of the building were carved on building stones. Stone house, as the locals call it, this is to prevent any fire insurance caused by the sparks flying in every direction during smelting.
Inside, selling some handmade smelting windbell, ring-pull and other such gadgetry is very interesting.

Zhao Ming academies, the main part of the building is Wuzhen library, the library contains some books and magazines about culture, social sciences, art and leisure travel etc, and has electronic reading room, lecture room, calligraphy and paintings exhibition hall, classrooms and so on.
Wuzhen post office were founded in 1903, a brick building, Western style iron gate is filled with history. It is still running after almost 115 years, I send a postcard as a souvenir.
Xizha scenic area consists of 12 islets, linked by 60 bridges, river density and stone bridge number are first in Chinese Ancient Towns.
The bridges in Xizha scenic area, because of the difference in terrain, are varied in design based upon their locality. Some bridges are high and steep, some bridges are wide and flattened, some bridges are very slim and small, including stone bridges and wooden bridges. Wandering the bridges, steep myself in this, acquaint myself with this, very interesting.
Fasten a cover over the bridge to help people sheltered from the sun and rain.
Not only bridges, lots of old houses and walkways have corridors, this is one of the features of Xizha scenic area.
The “Bridge inside a Bridge” is the most unique bridge in Xizha scenic area, it is the general name of Tongji Bridge and Renji Bridge. Tongji Bridge is in east west direction, Renji Bridge is in north-south direction, Tongji Bridge meets at right angles with Renji Bridge, no matter where we stand, through the arch of one bridge we can see another bridge, known as the “Bridge inside a Bridge”.
White Lotus Pagoda, built in the northern song dynasty period, is tallest building in Wuzhen, it is quadrate with seven levels, and at 51.75m, it is the westernmost extremity of Xizha scenic area. Looking west from White Lotus Pagoda, we can enjoy the scenery of the ancient canal, looking east from White Lotus Pagoda, we can see Jiangnan Water Village of bridges and pavilions so beautiful and poetic.
We wander on the street, old shop signs are everywhere, the woodcarving on the eaves and the door of old houses are very nice fine arts, the mottled old wall is still a landscape.
The wooden houses in Wuzhen are well preserved for its superb carvings both on the bricks and the wood.
The ubiquitous tiny beautiful sceneries reveal Wuzhen people’s intentions.
The mottled old wall is still a landscape.
Many old shop signs has experienced a century of vicissitudes.
There are numerous old stores and luxury-decorated new shops in the street. Visiting the store is also a kind of enjoyment.
Hengyitang health preservation assembly hall is a multi-functional living-dining-entertainment place. Several guest rooms created from a house with a courtyard is often very expensive. Besides there are a health preservation restaurant, a health preservation tea bar and a private garden in the assembly hall. The places for the tourists to stay in Xizha scenic area can be divided into three groups, family hotels, resort hotels and assembly halls. Obviously, Hengyitang health preservation assembly hall is the highest grade.
In Xizha scenic area, teahouses can be seen everywhere. When we are tired, take a rest, sit in a teahouse at the edge of the water, we feel very pleasant.
We can see a coffee shop. CHOIS COFFEE，it seems to be a brand of coffee chain.
Floating Market in Xizha scenic area was a morning market in the surrounding countryside. Early in the morning, small boats loaded with fresh fruits and poultry come here. The residents of the town along the river give a yell, small boats will stop along the pavilion, they can buy many fresh vegetables from small boats in Floating Market without leaving home, it popular with the residents. Today, it is a little late, we don’t see the bustling scene.
Wanting to rest here originally one evening, we set out immediately after daybreak, but my companions want to go anyway, I have to bid Wuzhen a hurried farewell.
